Japan
Malayoid
The "Kinpa" belongs to the group of small Shamo. The breed has been created in 1830 in the city of Akita situated on the main island Kyushu. This small breed has an interesting feature, they are henny feathered. Dispite clasified as small Shamo's the "Kinpa" shows more similarity with the small Aseel. As we know the Japanese imported a lot of fowl from different Asian countries during the 16th century it is not unthinkable that indeed the Kinpa has been developed out of small Aseel imported from abroad. Some breeders, outside Japan even think it that the "Kinpa" is the same breed we know as the "Tuzo". Dispite the fact that the game character of the "Kinpa" has been preserved the breed is not used at present day as pitfowl in Japan. They are only bred and kept as exhibition fowl. Typical features: triple peacomb, eyecolour: dark (brown to blackish), shankcolour: yellow, yellow with black spots (depending on colour of the plumage). Another typical feature is that the feathers are not pointed but rounded at the end and this feature is known in Japan as "marubane" (= round-feather). Weight: male 3.9 Lbs (1.8 Kg), female 3 Lbs (1.4 Kg). Typical colours: black, white, spangled & wheaten. The best birds are of the black colour .The first "Kinpa" outside Japan have been imported into Belgium in 1986. Only very few birds excist at present day in Europe (Belgium).
