Canker

Cause

Canker is caused by drinking stagnant water that is infected with Tricholmanos Gallinae, a parasite that is transmitted mostly by pigeons. This can be fatal if allowed to go too long because the birds will suffocate.

Symptoms

• White, or yellow sores in the mouth and throat.
• Darkened head
• Loss of appetite/weight loss.
• Bad smelling discharge from the mouth.

Prevention

Keep a good, clean, water source for your birds, and keep pigeons away from your birds.

Treatment

• Isolate infected birds, and completely sanitize your chicken's surroundings, especially their water dishes.
• Copper Sulfate
• Flagyl
